#MarketScience

This past Saturday we had so much fun at the Minneapolis Midtown Farmer’s Market talking to people about our Science in the Backyard theme: “Plants in a changing world”. We had a great time talking to people about native pollinators and pollinator gardens. Kids could look at flowers under the microscope and make their own pipe-cleaner pollinator that they could use to “pollinate” flowers (cups with colored flour in the bottom and a pipe-cleaner “style” in the middle that captured incidental “pollen” movement between cups). We also had an activity for kids and parents to learn about xylem flow in plants using straws of different lengths and widths. Everyone was wonderful and enthusiastic. I am looking forward to the next #MarketScience.
